Laying Bricks

A few weeks ago, I was at church and the pastor told a little story.  I liked it so much, I thought I should write it down so I don't forget it.  He talked of a man who was laying bricks.  A passerby walked by and asked, "What are you doing?"  The man laying bricks said huffily back, "I am laying bricks! What does it look like, moron."  Ok, so the pastor didn't say moron, but since you cannot see my body language, I add "moron".
The man walked on.  He found another worker doing the same job and he asked him the same question.  His answer, "I am building a Cathedral where generations of people will come and worship. Isn't it magnificent?"

As a mom, I sometimes get caught up in the next task at hand.  But it is important to remember I am not a laundry folder, or a dishwasher unloader, or homework helper. I am much more than a brick layer or "just" a mom.    I AM making a home for the growth and nurturing of my family.   Isn't it magnificent?  I think so.

I agree...a magnificent calling. And, you are doing a particularly magnificent job at it!
